Your Initial Visit & Chiropractic Assessment
When you meet Dr Paul Lanthois (Chiropractor), your first visit is focused on understanding you—your concerns, your goals, your current lifestyle and how your health is affecting your daily life.
This may include issues such as neck or back pain, headaches, posture concerns, or a desire to improve overall movement, function, and wellbeing.
We also take time to understand what matters most to you, so your care can be tailored to your priorities rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
What happens in your assessment?
If chiropractic care is appropriate for your situation, we carry out a structured spinal and neuromusculoskeletal assessment. This helps us build a clear picture of how your body is moving and functioning.
This may include:
- Postural and spinal assessment
To assess alignment, movement patterns, and areas of reduced mobility - Range of motion testing
To evaluate flexibility and movement through different regions of your spine and body - Orthopaedic and neurological screening tests
To check joint, muscle, and nerve function where clinically appropriate - Functional measures
Such as grip strength or basic physical indicators to help understand how your body is coping with physical stress
Imaging
In many cases, spinal imaging (such as motion X-rays) may be recommended.
Where required, we will refer you to an appropriate imaging provider (these are covered under Medicare). The results are then reviewed alongside your other assessment findings.
Imaging can help us:
- Assess spinal structure, motion and alignment
- Identify degenerative or structural changes
- Rule out underlying conditions that may require referral or co-management
- Support clinical decision-making around the most appropriate care approach
Your Next Visit
Understanding your results
At the end of your assessment, Dr Paul Lanthois will take you through your findings in a clear, structured way so you understand what is contributing to your current presentation and what it means for your health goals.
This is not a rushed summary. We take the time to connect the dots between your history, examination findings, movement patterns, and any imaging results where appropriate.
Where X-rays have been taken, we will review them with you and explain the key structural findings in relation to posture, alignment, and spinal function. This helps establish a clear baseline and supports informed clinical decision-making.
What we look at together
Your results are considered as a whole, including:
- Posture and spinal movement patterns
- Range of motion and functional testing
- Neurological and orthopaedic screening findings
- Imaging results (if taken)
- Your symptoms, goals, and daily functional capacity
This combined approach helps us understand not just how you feel, but how your body is functioning and adapting overall.
Your care plan
If chiropractic care is suitable for your situation, we will outline a clear, structured plan tailored to your needs and goals.
Your plan may include:
- A recommended course of chiropractic care
- Specific home exercises to improve mobility, strength, and control
- Practical lifestyle strategies to support recovery and function between visits
- Ongoing guidance so you always know what stage of care you are in
Progress You Can See and Understand
Care is not guesswork. We schedule regular progress reviews to reassess how your body is responding.
These may include repeat movement testing, functional assessments, and review of changes in symptoms, activity levels, and physical performance.
This allows us to:
- Track measurable changes over time
- Adjust your care plan where needed
- Ensure your care remains appropriate and effective
Education & support – The Vital Shift Dinner
We believe the best outcomes happen when people understand how to support their health outside the clinic as well as during care.
To support this, we host a fortnightly community event called The Vital Shift Dinner, catered by our clinic and open to patients and their families.
These sessions are designed to give you practical, easy-to-apply education around:
- Movement, posture, and spinal health
- Stress and nervous system load
- Sleep, recovery, and daily habits
- Foundational principles of how the body adapts and maintains function
We also explore how progress can be understood through more than just symptoms alone, including changes in movement, function, and overall wellbeing over time.
The goal is simple: to help you feel more informed, more confident, and more in control of your health journey.
