Sports Chiropractic in Mudjimba

Whether you’re often found on the footy field, enjoy regular games of netball, or simply like getting out for a weekend run along the coast, sports chiropractic is designed for anyone who wants to move more freely, recover more effectively, and reduce the risk of injury.

It’s not limited to professional athletes, though. Every person is considered an athlete in some way. Whether you’re a weekend runner, a parent lifting children, or an office worker spending long hours at a desk, your body is always performing. Sports chiropractic applies the principles of athletic care to everyday life.

From Performance to Prevention

This approach is about more than relieving pain. The focus is on how the brain and body communicate so that movements are accurate and efficient. Better coordination helps reduce strain, improve recovery, and enhance overall function. Dr Paul Lanthois (Chiropractor) notes that there are many myths about activity, such as the idea that people should avoid high-impact exercise. He explains that our bodies are designed to absorb impact, and movement is essential for long-term function.

Experience That Spans All Levels

Our chiropractor’s passion for this work stems from his own childhood. He was once sidelined with “growing pains” and discouraged from sport, even placed in heavy bandages for months. That mismanagement inspired a commitment to helping others avoid the same fate. With personal experience in cricket, running, badminton, and AFL, he brings empathy alongside decades of professional practice.

Dr Lanthois’ training includes certification as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and postgraduate sports chiropractic qualifications from Macquarie University. His work has ranged from Olympic medalists to community athletes, including professional cricket squads from New South Wales, Tasmania, and Zimbabwe.

A vivid memory is of the Nigerian 4×100 relay team, who lined up for checkups before each race, knowing that a hundredth of a second could mean the difference between winning a medal and missing the podium.

What to Expect During Care

An initial consultation involves a thorough spinal examination and, when appropriate, referral for motion study X-rays. These moving images provide more detail than standard films and allow before-and-after comparisons that demonstrate changes in function over time. The consultation also explores lifestyle factors such as posture, sleep, nutrition, and stress, since each has a direct effect on physical performance.

“The research is very clear that chiropractic improves what they call sensory motor integration. That means your body has a greater sense of itself, so you can perform tasks and athletic activities more efficiently,” says Dr Lanthois. This is one way that chiropractic care connects directly to performance and coordination.

Sports chiropractic follows a holistic model, addressing three key areas of health: physical, emotional, and nutritional. You may also be invited to participate in workshops and talks covering topics like posture, recovery, or performance. This reflects a coaching approach where Dr Lanthois provides guidance and tools while patients actively take part in their progress.

Principles That Shape the Approach

Dr Lanthois’ philosophy is simple: everyone is an athlete, and every athlete deserves to function at their best. “Just as a Formula One car gets mechanical tune-ups so it can perform at its best, this is really chiropractic at its finest,” he shares. Adjustments help restore spinal motion, while education encourages healthier habits outside the practice.

“It is never about you coming in and I fix you. It is very much a team 50:50 process,” he says. This emphasis on partnership highlights the shared responsibility between practitioner and patient. “I can do my part. You do your part and together we’ll get there.”

One of the guiding beliefs is that doctor means teacher. The role extends beyond adjustments to helping patients understand their bodies and take responsibility for their own progress. Another cornerstone is mindset. Patients are encouraged not to measure themselves against averages but to aim for the best version of themselves, whatever that looks like in daily life.
